Protesters at Pulte Homes shareholders meeting. May 15, 2008 Both homeowners received letters on June 2, 2007 from the Tiehen Group, the subdivision's HOA, to remove all displayed items. Per the complaint, these displays are an attempt to discourage or impact potential buyers. The builder and area residents find our displays disparaging and offensive. The imposed fines and threat of placing a lien on our property is a subversion of our constitutional right, specifically freedom of speech! We have been fined an initial $500.00 and $50.00 a day beginning on June 12, 2007.
I AM NOT A 100% DELIGHTED PULTE HOMEOWNER"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world. Indeed it is the only thing that ever has." Margaret Mead "Life takes on meaning when you become motivated, set goals and charge after them in an unstoppable manner." Quote Les Brown. Here are some pictures of us at the entrance of the Pulte subdivision, The Reserve. It was not until after we started picketing, April 22, 2006, that the HOA began fining us for our beautifully decorated homes. Taken from a letter, written by Brian Trimble, General Manager of Customer Relations, Pulte Homes
of Greater Kansas City, in response to the Kansas State Attorney Generals Office, dated May 4, 2007:
"Ms. Daugherty has gone to great lengths to avoid her obligations under the Limited Warranty, and to extort
Pulte into buying her residence..." Definition of Extort: The natural meaning of the word extort is to obtain money or other valuable things
by compulsion, by actual force, or by the force of motives applied to the will, and often more overpowering
and irresistible than physical force. (criminal law) an act punishable by law; usually considered an evil act.
Definition of Protest: The act of protesting; a public (often organized) manifestation of dissent.
The act of making a strong public expression of disagreement and disapproval. After thirteen days of protesting, I became an "extortionist" versus "An Unhappy Homeowner". Obviously,
my arm crutches and signs are more overpowering and irresistible than physical force to Pulte Homes, Inc. employees. I underestimated my POWER!
They say that a wardrobe is everything, this is my picketing t-shirt.
"Everybody knows American isn't easy. America is advanced citizenship.
You gotta want it bad, 'cause it's gonna put up a fight. It's gonna say, "You want free speech? Let's see you acknowledge a man whose words make your blood boil, who's standing center stage and advocating, at the top of his lungs, that which you would spend a lifetime opposing at the top of yours. You want to claim this land as the land of the free, then the symbol of your country can't just be a flag; the symbol also has to be one of its citizens exercising his right to burn that flag in protest." Show me that, defend that, celebrate that in your classrooms. Then you can stand up and sing about the land of the free." quote the character President Andrew Shepard, in the movie "The American President" screenplay by Aaron Sorkin.
The battle worn flag was captured on or about May 11, 2008! Our neighborhood won an Edy's Ice Cream Pary! What an honor to be nominated and selected for being a happy, "All American Neighborhood", that demonstrates its deepest respect for everyone's rights and property! Return to the top of the page |
